      Historical Context

      The Waterbury Clock Company was founded in 1857 in Waterbury, Connecticut, and became one of the extremely prolific American clockmakers of the 19th and early 20th centuries. By the 1890s, Waterbury was producing clocks for both domestic and international markets. The crystal regulator style—glass panel clocks with brass or gilded frames—was sought-after from the late 1800s through the early 20th century.
